The allure of Morocco’s incredible waves and vibrant culture draws surfers from around the globe. While chasing perfect swells is exhilarating, it’s also our collective responsibility to ensure that our presence leaves a positive impact on this beautiful country’s environment and communities. At Morocco Surf & Stay, we are deeply committed to sustainable practices and invite our guests to join us in protecting the paradise we call home.
Here’s how we, and you, can contribute to responsible tourism and sustainable surfing in Morocco:

1. Respect the Ocean and Beaches:

The health of our marine ecosystems and cleanliness of our beaches are paramount.
  • Leave No Trace: Always take all your rubbish with you from the beach, the lineup, and any excursion sites (like Paradise Valley). Better yet, if you spot litter, take a moment to pick it up. Your small effort makes a big difference.

  • Reduce Plastic Use: Single-use plastics are a major problem worldwide. At Morocco Surf & Stay, we provide filtered drinking water, encouraging you to refill your reusable water bottles daily. Say no to plastic bags in shops, and choose products with minimal packaging.

  • Mindful Waste Disposal: Dispose of your waste properly, using designated bins. If possible, separate recyclables.

  • Reef-Safe Sunscreen: Opt for mineral-based, reef-safe sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens can be harmful to marine life and coral reefs, even in areas without direct reefs.

2. Embrace Local Culture & Support Local Communities:

Your visit is an opportunity to connect with and support the wonderful people who live here.
  • Shop Local & Authentic: When buying souvenirs, argan oil, or fresh produce, choose local markets (like Souk El Had in Agadir) and artisan shops over mass-produced items. This directly supports local families and preserves traditional crafts.

  • Dine Locally: While our camp provides delicious home-cooked meals, venturing out to local cafes and restaurants in Tamraght or Taghazout offers an authentic culinary experience and boosts the local economy.

  • Fair Exchange: When bargaining in markets, do so respectfully and with a friendly demeanor. Remember that a few dirhams can mean a lot to a local vendor.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Dress modestly in villages and public spaces away from the beach. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people. Show interest in local customs and learn a few basic Darija phrases.

3. Conserve Resources: Water & Energy

Water is a precious resource in Morocco, and energy conservation is vital for the planet.
  • Water Wise: Take shorter showers. Turn off taps while brushing your teeth or soaping up. Report any leaks immediately.

  • Energy Smart: Turn off lights and air conditioning (if applicable) when you leave your room. Unplug chargers when not in use.

4. Respect the Surf Environment & Etiquette:

Protecting the waves means respecting both nature and fellow surfers.
  • Surf Etiquette: Adhere to common surf etiquette: respect the right of way, don’t drop in, and be mindful of other surfers in the lineup. This prevents accidents and maintains harmony in the water.

  • Know Your Limits: Our instructors will always guide you to spots appropriate for your skill level, ensuring safety for you and others.

At Morocco Surf & Stay, we believe that every wave caught and every interaction shared can be a step towards a more sustainable and respectful future for surf travel. Join us in making a positive impact on this beautiful corner of the world.
Surf responsibly, explore authentically, and leave paradise better than you found it!
