1. Respect the Ocean and Beaches:
Leave No Trace: Always take all your rubbish with you from the beach, the lineup, and any excursion sites (like Paradise Valley). Better yet, if you spot litter, take a moment to pick it up. Your small effort makes a big difference.
Reduce Plastic Use: Single-use plastics are a major problem worldwide. At Morocco Surf & Stay, we provide filtered drinking water, encouraging you to refill your reusable water bottles daily. Say no to plastic bags in shops, and choose products with minimal packaging.
Mindful Waste Disposal: Dispose of your waste properly, using designated bins. If possible, separate recyclables.
Reef-Safe Sunscreen: Opt for mineral-based, reef-safe sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens can be harmful to marine life and coral reefs, even in areas without direct reefs.
2. Embrace Local Culture & Support Local Communities:
Shop Local & Authentic: When buying souvenirs, argan oil, or fresh produce, choose local markets (like Souk El Had in Agadir) and artisan shops over mass-produced items. This directly supports local families and preserves traditional crafts.
Dine Locally: While our camp provides delicious home-cooked meals, venturing out to local cafes and restaurants in Tamraght or Taghazout offers an authentic culinary experience and boosts the local economy.
Fair Exchange: When bargaining in markets, do so respectfully and with a friendly demeanor. Remember that a few dirhams can mean a lot to a local vendor.
Cultural Sensitivity: Dress modestly in villages and public spaces away from the beach. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people. Show interest in local customs and learn a few basic Darija phrases.
3. Conserve Resources: Water & Energy
Water Wise: Take shorter showers. Turn off taps while brushing your teeth or soaping up. Report any leaks immediately.
Energy Smart: Turn off lights and air conditioning (if applicable) when you leave your room. Unplug chargers when not in use.
4. Respect the Surf Environment & Etiquette:
Surf Etiquette: Adhere to common surf etiquette: respect the right of way, don’t drop in, and be mindful of other surfers in the lineup. This prevents accidents and maintains harmony in the water.
Know Your Limits: Our instructors will always guide you to spots appropriate for your skill level, ensuring safety for you and others.
