What You'll Discover Inside

The market is organized into specialized sectors. Here are the key highlights we explore together:

A large heap of vibrant red spice, likely paprika or chili powder, dominates the foreground. In the background, there are mounds of lighter-colored spices, possibly cumin or turmeric, along with nuts and dried fruits. A purple scoop is stuck into the red spice.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Souk El Had FAQ & Visitor Tips

Everything you need to know about opening hours, payments, safety, and etiquette.

What are Souk El Had's opening hours?

Souk El Had is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Important: The market is completely closed on Mondays for municipal cleaning and maintenance.

Can I pay with credit card at the market?

Cash in Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is strongly preferred. While a few upscale carpet and leather vendors accept international cards, all spice, food, and artisan stalls only accept cash. ATMs are located near Gates 5 and 6.

Is Souk El Had safe for tourists and solo travelers?

Yes, Souk El Had is very safe with dedicated tourist police stationed around the perimeter. As in any large bustling market, keep your phone and wallet in a secure front pocket. Having our local host ensures a smooth experience with zero hassle.

What should I wear when visiting the souk?

Dress casually and respectfully. Lightweight clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is ideal and appreciated by local artisans. Wear comfortable walking shoes, as we will explore quite a bit of ground.

How does bargaining work in Morocco?

Bargaining is a friendly, customary social ritual, not a battle! Never feel aggressive. Vendors will quote an opening price, and your host will help you counter respectfully to reach a fair price that both you and the merchant are happy with.

Can I take photos inside the souk?

Photographing the colorful stalls, towers of spices, and architectural arches is generally fine and welcomed. Always ask permission with a friendly smile before taking close-up portraits of individual merchants or artisans.
